Andrew Yang #YangGang

Andrew Yang, is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist and presidential candidate. Originally a corporate layer and a perpetual entrepreneur he has an eye for fairness and equality. He ran as a candidate in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries.

Yang believes in "Human-Centered Capitalism. In April 2018, he published "The War on Normal People", which focused on his domestic policies. More than 160 policies were listed on Yang's 2020 campaign website. Central to the campaign was the "Freedom Dividend", a form of universal basic income, which proposed a monthly $1,000 dividend to all U.S. citizens over the age of 18 in response to worker displacement driven by technological automation. The idea being that poorer people will spend the dividend, boosting the economy, while the ultra-rich people will most likely not notice this relatively small sum of money arriving in their bank account. Yang believes universal basic income is a more viable policy than job retraining programs, citing studies showing that job retraining of displaced manufacturing workers in the Midwest had success rates of 0–15%.

Yang support a carbon tax and bringing the U.S. back into the Paris Climate Agreement, as well as investing in thorium-based nuclear power. He supports legislation banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and has pledged to appoint pro-choice judges.

The most interesting interactions with other Democratic candidates were with Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders championed the idea of free healthcare, a normal phenomenon everywhere in the world except U.S.A. Yang made it clear that he would keep the option of private insurance but would also focus on reducing costs and eventual expand the coverage of "Medicare for All".

It is likely that Andrew Yang will be added to Joe Biden's cabinet but the real question lies under what role? Yang has a supreme confidence and is tough in leadership, he may be better suited to a role of major consultancy rather than an official role. Only the future will tell.

Face Mask Vogue is excited to see if Yang will run in the 2024 presidential election.
