Mentally Surviving Lockdown
As Ireland heads into Lockdown 2.0. we thought it would be a good idea to share some of our tips into mentally surviving these torrid times.
1. Get Outside
This is probably one of the most important tips. Getting outside and being in nature, even if only for moments at a time will do wonders for your mental health.
Feeling glum or a bit down? Try some exercise if you can! This doesn't have to be anything super strenuous. Walk, Run, Jump anything that will get you moving, sweating and releasing those fun endorphins!
Routine is definitely one of the most important tips for Lockdown Mental Survival and that's why it's on this list. Keep yourself to a waking and sleeping routine, set alarms during the week and leave them off during the weekend. This will help you track how long you have been in lockdown for and is vital for keeping sane.
4. Balanced Diet
More so than ever it is important to keep yourself on a balanced diet. Staying at home makes food that much more accessible, the fridge is right there. When going to the shops make sure you pick up majority healthy food and little junk. Keep up your vitamins and don't overdo it! Everything in moderation including moderation itself :)
5. Stay in Contact with Friends
Keep your connections going to avoid loneliness. The virtual world is ever expanding so there are plenty of opportunities to zoom or call your mates. Don't let the lockdown stop you from keeping in touch with those you would normally see. Send, texts, calls, gifts and letters. It will do wonders for your mental health and your friends mental health!
6. Acquire a New Skill
Are you just going to let 6 weeks of your life fly by? Of course not! Try to learn a new skill during this period. Start an online course, learn a musical instrument, learn a language! Anything that keeps you sane and makes you better!
We hope these tips help on the long road to a sub R number. We know these coming weeks will be tough and we all will feel a bit down at some point, it's natural. When you feel it remember that a problem shared is a problem halved.
